Mecer en plaaslike vervaardiging, Anlé Els
Our Product Manager, Anle Els, was recently interviewed on Kyknet’s Winslyn, a show that covers the latest in business & technology for DSTV’s Kyknet. Presenter Divan Botha spoke to Anle about the role Mecer plays in the technology space in South Africa.
Mecer is unique amongst South African technology brands in that it is locally assembled at the Mecer assembly plant located in Midrand, Johannesburg. The company has a national footprint with 10x service centres and branches countrywide.
Mecer’s product portfolio consists of Desktop PC’s, notebooks, tablets, accessories and a variety of alternative power solutions. The company has an indirect business model and sells via a reseller base of approximately 6000, consisting of Large Value Added Partners, however the majority of our resellers are SME`s. Mecer business is focused across all market verticals with specific focus on Education, Public Sector, and Corporate business.
Through Mecer’s inhouse education facility, Mecer Inter-Ed, Mecer trains and equips South African school leavers and graduates to work in the technology space. Many of these learners end up working for Mecer or for one of the company’s resellers. Mecer Inter-Ed also offers company-funded training and development to staff.
Anle talked about the challenges faced by the company which included loss of skilled staff to emigration, the deteriorating state of the economy and the fact that they face a lot of price volatility due to buying components that are priced in dollars.
Looking to the future, Mecer see the artificial intelligence space as a very exciting opportunity along with reaffirming their commitment to local skills development.
Mecer is proud to be one of Microsoft`s largest local device partners in the Middle East and Africa region and a proud contributor to the local South African Economy.
